Salolime
Chernomorskoye
Salolime is probably a copyist's slip for Kalos Limen, a Greek name that was put into Latin letters at an early stage of copying, while its word for harbour, limen, was never turned into the Latin portus. The town, at Chernomorskoye in north-western Crimea, was founded by Chersonesus in the fourth or third century BC as a fortified outpost against Scythian raids: just two and a half hectares inside a wall with rectangular towers, with a harbour for ships bound for the mouths of the Bug and the Dnieper. The Scythians took it in the second century BC.
