Saurica is set in the part of Asia that the Tabula places beyond the Sea of Azov, above the Taurus mountains. The name is probably a copyist's slip. With T in place of the first letter S, it becomes Taurica, the ancient name for the land of the Tauri, the Crimean peninsula. A single wrong stroke of the pen may have turned a well-known region into a puzzle.
