Danova

Mehin? (Barrington)

Danova is Danaba, in late Roman times the headquarters of the Third Gallic Legion, a post of great military weight at the entrance to the plateau of Damascus, on the edge between farmland and desert. Older research placed it at Sadad in Syria, the Zedad of the Book of Numbers and of Ezekiel, where remains of strong fortifications and two old churches survive; a newer suggestion is Mehin. Bishops of Danaba appear in later lists. If Sadad is right, the road made a detour here, and the eighteen Roman miles from Cehere are rather too many.
