Cunissa

irgendwo westl. von Satala

Cunissa is known only from this map, and where it lay is one of the puzzles of this mountain frontier. The map's figures point to Koçhisar, but no ancient site has been found there. One suggestion puts the station on a second road over the Akşehir pass, which a copyist may have dropped, as happened often on the map, and derives the name from the Greek word for turquoise, echoed in nearby Gökseki. Another looks to Balahor, the first fertile farmland after the long crossing of the Çimen mountains.
