Road station
Cuccio
Ilok
Listen to the story
Cuccio is Cuccium, today Ilok on the Danube in Croatia, a road station and fort on the river road between Cornacum and Acumincum. In late Roman times a troop of picked horsemen and a unit of mounted archers were stationed here. An inscription names a soldier of the Praetorian Guard who was born at Cuccium, and since the tombstone of a magistrate of Sirmium was found nearby at Susek, the place probably belonged to that city. An altar to Diana also came to light between Ilok and Susek.
