Crucis
S. Caterina di Pittinuri
Crvcis is almost certainly a miscopy of Cornus, near Santa Caterina di Pittinuri in Sardinia. Cornus was the old stronghold of the Sardinians, where they took refuge in the mountains, and in the war with Hannibal the Roman historian Livy calls it the chief town of its region. Later its town council set up an honorific inscription for a patron who had helped it gain the rank of a colony, and a milestone names the road from Tharros to Cornus. The first printed edition of the map forgot this name altogether.
