Cronias

Palaia Koroneia · Pyrgos

Cronias is Coronea in Boeotia, a town already in Homer's list of ships, on a spur of Mount Helicon near Agios Georgios in Greece, where the road along Lake Copais met the pass over the mountain. Nearby stood the sanctuary of Athena Itonia, where the Boeotians gathered for their common festival. The Byzantine lexicographer Stephanus even claims that no moles could live at Coronea. On the map, as with its neighbours, the road runs the wrong way: in reality it turned north-west from Plataea.
