Coveliacas

Moosberg

Listen to the story

Coveliacae lay on the road from Augsburg over the Alps towards the Brenner, probably at the late Roman hilltop fort on the Moosberg near Murnau in Upper Bavaria. Here the map bends the red road line into an unusually long kink to carry it across the mountains, and it gives twenty Roman miles to Tarteno, now Partenkirchen. Older research also thought of the Kofel above Oberammergau, but the distances rule it out.
