Analiba

? Hasanova ?

Analiba, the Analibla of the geographer Ptolemy, is usually placed at Hasanova, almost exactly halfway between Satala and Melitene on the Roman road along the Euphrates. It lay in a district where salt was won from springs and pits, and Hasanova is still notorious for its bitter water. A cohort of Raetians was based here in late Roman times, perhaps from the middle of the 2nd century AD; Roman tiles, pottery, coins and a water pipe have been found. The map puts it on a road from Nicopolis to Zimara, probably by mistake, as the missing red road line suggests.
