Amutria

Butoieşti?

Amutria, the Amutrium of the Greek geographer Ptolemy, was a station on the road from Drobeta across Oltenia towards Romula, near the point where the Motru joins the Jiu, perhaps at Butoiești in Romania. The name probably stands for ad Mutriam, at the Motru, and the river still bears it. The map sets Amutria thirty-six Roman miles, about fifty-three kilometres, from Drobeta and thirty-five from Pelendova, two unusually long stages.
