Andretio

Brečeva bei Gornji Muč

Andretio is a miswriting of Andetrium, a fortress in the hinterland of Salona, at Brečeva near Gornji Muć in Croatia. The Greek historian Cassius Dio describes it as walled on a steep rock, ringed by deep ravines with rushing streams; here, during the great revolt of AD 6 to 9, the rebel leader Bato held out against Tiberius. The road built from Salona under Tiberius first ended here. Later auxiliary cohorts were stationed at Andetrium, and remains of houses and baths with mosaics show that the place lived on into late antiquity.
