Road station

Anteis

(near Draguignan) (Barrington)

Anteis was a station on the road from Riez down to Forum Voconii on the coast road, but neither its name nor its site is secure. A modern atlas places it near Draguignan; older suggestions include Ampus, Lorgues and Lantier, and one older scholar even changed the name to Argenteis to put it on the river Argens. The only other ancient text that may name it is the list of places compiled in Ravenna, and only if its Forantes is split into Foro and Antes. The map's figure onward, nineteen miles or about twenty-eight kilometres, is somewhat too large.
