Ambrusium

Pont-Ambroix, near Villetelle

Ambrusium, called Ambrussum in the Roman register of routes, lay on the road between Nîmes and Montpellier where it crossed the Vidourle, at Pont-Ambroix near Villetelle. The ruins of a Roman bridge still stand there, at Saint-Ambrois. The pilgrim from Bordeaux changed horses here, and the silver cups from Vicarello name it among the stations of the road to Spain. The map's figure back to Sextantio, twenty miles or about thirty kilometres, is too large; older research corrected it to fifteen.
