Road station
Cabau
Abu Ghusun (Barrington)
Cabau is the road station that the Roman register of routes calls Cabalsi and the Ravenna list Gabaum, at Abu Ghusun on the desert road to Berenike. It may be the unnamed place on the mountain that Pliny describes on this route, and it was perhaps built up around AD 76 under the prefect Iulius Ursus. Finds are meagre, a few sherds of the fourth and fifth centuries. On the map a tear in the parchment cuts through the distance figure of the next stretch, so that only its first and last numerals survive.
