Cabacos
Pantikapaion · Kerch (Crimea)
Cabacos is a badly garbled form of Panticapaeum, today Kerch in Crimea, the seat of the Bosporan kings from about 480 BC. Pliny notes that some people simply called it Bosporus. A Greek coastal guide calls it the last place in Europe, since it stood on the western shore of the strait, while Phanagoreia opposite already counted as Asia. The city struck its own coins from the fifth century BC, marked with the first letters of its name. Goths and Heruli invaded in the third century AD, and the Huns destroyed the city in the fourth.
