Nimphi
Geroyevka
Nimphi is Nymphaeum, a Greek town on the European shore of the Cimmerian Bosporus near Panticapaeum, founded in the sixth century BC, perhaps by settlers from Samos, with temples of Demeter and Aphrodite. Strabo praises its good harbour and the grain-bearing land around it. For a time it belonged to the Athenian league and was ruled by Athens, before the Bosporan kings absorbed it. A much-discussed find is a fresco of the third century BC, discovered in 1982, showing a ship that seems to bear the name Isis, perhaps a Ptolemaic warship that brought cult objects to the Bosporan king.
