Nincildae

Nirkunnam (Barrington)

Nincildae is usually identified with Nelkynda, which together with Muziris and Tyndis was one of the important harbours of Rome's trade with India. A Greek sailing guide of the Roman period places it on a river south of Muziris, in the kingdom of the Pandya rulers in the far south of India, and a great deal of pepper was shipped from these markets; its port, Bakare, lay at the river mouth. The exact site is unknown, though one suggestion puts it at Nirkunnam. The Ravenna list writes Nilcinna.
