Cotiara
Kottarakara?
Cotiara was, according to the geographer Ptolemy, the capital of the Aioi, the southernmost people on the west coast of southern India. It lay south of the Vembanad lake, perhaps at Kottarakara. Pliny speaks of a pepper country called Cottonara, a name often linked with this town, though town and region are probably to be kept apart. The map sets it south of Muziris, but the correct order would be Muziris, then Nelkynda, then Cotiara. The Ravenna list knows the name in three different spellings.
