Cranico

Akköprü

Cranico is the station on the river Granicus, though the river itself is not drawn on the map; the C for G is a common Latin mix-up and hints at a Latin source. It stood by the old bridge over the lower river near Akköprü in Turkey, a crossing that served the main road from Lampsacus to Cyzicus from antiquity into modern times. The river is famous for Alexander the Great's victory over the Persian commanders in the summer of 334 BC, a river he had scorned, Arrian says, as a little stream, and for the battle of 73 BC in which Lucullus beat Mithridates.
