Conpasin
Wadi Daghbag (Barrington)
Conpasin is the fort of Compasi in the Wadi Daghbag, on the desert road from Coptos to Berenike, though the ending of its name is disputed: a recent close reading of the parchment gives Conpasari, while older copies point to Conpasi. The fort stood at a former gold mine and, like Berenike, had a cistern, probably built under Augustus by Roman soldiers then stationed in the region, as an inscription records. A list of road forts written on a potsherd places it between Dios and Xeron Pelagos.
