Conni

~ Çalköy

Conni is the Konna of the geographer Ptolemy, a town of Greater Phrygia whose name is probably Greek, from words for sand or ash, for a settlement on land cleared by fire. It may also be the Conium that the Roman writer Pliny counts among the famous towns of Phrygia. As a bishopric under Synnada it lasted into the 12th century, from the 4th century with the added name Demetropolis, which later replaced the old one. Its site is unknown, perhaps by the ruins near Zafertepeçalköy; wherever it lay, the forty and thirty-two miles the map gives to its neighbours are too low.
