Eucarpia
wahrscheinlich Emirhisar
Eucarpia, at Emirhisar in Phrygia, takes its name from the fertility of its countryside: a writer quoted in an ancient lexicon tells of grapes grown so huge there that a single bunch could split a wagon, and a legend said Zeus had given the land to Demeter and Dionysus. On the map the name seems to have been erased and written again, taking most of the road line beneath it, and it is clearest on the photograph of 1888. Bishops are attested from the Council of Nicaea in 325, and the acropolis walls still stood almost complete in the first half of the 19th century.
