Escone, thought to be the seat of the Estiones, lay on the road between Cambodunum, now Kempten, and Abodiacum, now Epfach, perhaps near Echt; its exact site is unknown. Because the map draws this road so strangely, the first scholars to study it looked for Escone far to the east, at Freising or even Munich. The map puts it twenty Roman miles, about thirty kilometres, from Kempten and eighteen from Epfach.
