Erulos

Civitatomassa

Listen to the story

Erulos is a slip for Forulos: this is Foruli, a Sabine village at Civitatomassa near L'Aquila, which the poet Virgil lists among the Sabine peoples who marched to war against Aeneas. From here the emperor Claudius had a new road paved over the mountains to where the rivers Aternus and Tirinus meet, as an inscription records. The map sets Foruli three Roman miles, about four and a half kilometres, from Fisternas.
