Eumenia
Işıklı
Eumenia, now Işıklı in Turkey, was founded in the 2nd century BC by King Attalus the Second of Pergamon and named after his brother Eumenes, though an ancient lexicon also tells that Hyllos, son of Heracles, named it for his pleasant stay. Its people nevertheless saw themselves as colonists from Argos, and for a time in the 1st century the town was called Antonia, after the wife of Mark Antony. It had a Roman garrison and Jewish and Christian communities. The old centre in the plain probably lies beneath a lake today. The map gives no figure for the road on to Pella.
