Euporea
? Kalokastro? Strymoniko? Neo Petritsi?
Euporea, the Euporia of Ptolemy, has a name that means something like ease of access. An ancient explanation says Alexander founded it after a swift victory and named it for that ease; more likely it was Alexander I, who took the Bisaltian country around 480 BC, or the name refers to an easy ford of the Strymon. A veteran of the Fifteenth Legion buried at Carnuntum on the Danube may have come from here. Its site is disputed, from Strymoniko to Neo Petritsi or the southern mouth of the Rupel pass.
