Graero

? Palaiokastro sw. von Terpni-Nigrita

Graero, the Greron of the Ravenna list, may take its name from the Graaioi, a people on the Strymon whom Thucydides seems to mention, if his text is sound. The station is usually placed on the hill of Palaiokastro a little south-west of Terpni, near Nigrita, where excavations since 1993 have found ancient tombs and a large Roman building of the 2nd century, the remains of a clearly prosperous settlement on the road from Philippi to Heraclea Sintica.
