Melissirgin

Gerakarou ?

Melissirgin keeps a Greek accusative ending, as in the Roman register of routes, and its name comes from the Greek word for beekeeper. It was a station in Mygdonia on the Via Egnatia between Thessalonica and Apollonia, whose exact course here is still unclear, probably near today's Gerakarou, where the base of a marble statue of a woman has been found. An older guess placed it at the village of Melissourgos, famous for its honey, but that village has borne the name only in recent times.
