Melena
Arcadia: city NW Megalopolis
Melena appears twice on the map, and this entry is the mistaken one. The real town, which the Roman writer Pliny calls Melaenae, lay in Arcadia on the road from Olympia to Megalopolis, where the other entry places it fairly correctly. Here it was entered again, between Argos and Megalopolis and on the wrong side of Megalopolis, where Tegea would be expected. The Ravenna list repeats the slip, running from Mycenae through Argos and Melena to Megalopolis and Tegea, so the error already stood in their common source, perhaps made when route lists without compass directions were turned into a map.
