Grannona is Crannon in Thessaly, whose ruins lie near Larissa, a place settled since the Neolithic that, according to the Greek geographer Strabo, was once called Ephyra. Under the family of the Scopadae it ranked among the leading cities of Thessaly, and in 322 BC Antipater's victory at Crannon ended the Lamian War, the Greek revolt against Macedon after Alexander's death. Crannon was also known for a warm spring, which the Roman writer Pliny counts among its wonders.
