Grinarione

Köngen bei Rottweil

Grinarione is Grinario, today Köngen on the Neckar in Germany, a fort for a cohort on the road from Augsburg to Mainz, built around 90. Around 160 the garrison moved forward to Lorch, but the village of some twenty hectares beside the old fort flourished until the middle of the third century, and its people, citizens of Sumelocenna, built a wall at their own expense. A milestone of Trajan counts twenty-nine Roman miles, about forty-three kilometres, to Sumelocenna, today Rottenburg. On the map the distance on to Clarenna is missing.
