Hadrianopoli

bei Sofratikë

Hadrianopoli had a theatre of the second century that later townspeople turned into houses. The town, at Sofratikë in the Drino valley of Albania, was one of Hadrian's foundations, built on an older Hellenistic settlement; after the Gothic invasions it was abandoned for a time, and later Justinian renewed it and named it after himself, Iustinianopolis. It was a bishop's seat from 449. Its name means Hadrian's city, and the map knows another Hadrianopolis.
