Eysses, Cm. Villeneuve-sur-Lot
Excisum is Eysses, beside Villeneuve-sur-Lot, a station of the Nitiobriges between Agen and Cahors. The Roman register of routes knows it too, on a road that continues to a crossing of the Dordogne and on to Périgueux; the map's next station, Diolindum, may be that same crossing. The name lived on in the medieval abbey of Notre-Dame d'Eysses. Almost all older research accepted this identification; only one proposal looked elsewhere.
