Condatomago

La Graufesenque, Cm. Millau

Condatomago is La Graufesenque, beside Millau, where the Dourbie flows into the Tarn; the Celtic name means the field at the confluence. From the third century the town was called Aemiliavum, which gave Millau its name. La Graufesenque was a major pottery centre of the Ruteni, turning out red glossy tableware in many workshops for export, until Lezoux in the land of the Arverni gradually took over. The potters' firing lists, preserved as inscriptions, are a key source for the ancient pottery industry. On the map a station seems to be missing on the way to Lodève.
