Road station

Confluentibus

Beograd Novi?

Confluentibus means at the confluences: the station stood where the Sava flows into the Danube, opposite Singidunum, the Roman Belgrade, perhaps on the Great War Island. Yet on this map the Sava never reaches the Danube; it runs off into the Adriatic, an echo of the old Greek belief that an arm of the Danube flowed into that sea. The station's name still assumes the real meeting of the rivers. Before Singidunum stands a strange sign that probably meant one mile, which the copyist did not understand.
