Congusso

Altınekin

Congusso is the Kongoustos of the geographer Ptolemy, and it lay at Altınekin in Turkey, a site regarded as fairly secure because the map's distances are relatively accurate along this stretch. The station stood on the northern diagonal road through Lycaonia, where it crossed the road from Ancyra to Iconium. Altınekin has yielded many ancient and Byzantine inscriptions, among them several milestones, and Byzantine stones are built into its han, the old roadside inn. Several ancient tunnels run into the mountain, dug to bring water.
