Aggar Selnepte

Nefta

Aggar Selnepte is the oasis of Nefta in southern Tunisia, where ruins survive, at the north-western end of the Triton lake on the road from Gabès to Thelepte. The Ravenna list calls it simply Nepte and the geographer Ptolemy Negetta; a late Roman list of military posts names a camp here, the castra Neptitana, and bishops of the place are known. The map counts thirty Roman miles from Thusuros, the oasis of Tozeur, and then a full hundred and fifteen miles on to Agarsel.
