Agion
Aigion · Αίγιο
Agion is Aigion, today Aigio in Greece, one of the leading cities of Achaea, with a good harbour on the Gulf of Corinth. Legend said Zeus was nursed here by a goat, and the name was taken from the Greek word for goat. The Achaean League met in a grove of Zeus nearby, and Pausanias was shown a statue of Zeus by the sea where Agamemnon was said to have gathered the Greek leaders to plan the war against Priam. After an earthquake in 23 AD, Tiberius let the city off its taxes for three years. The map drops a letter from the name, most likely a thin i.
