Salandona

Listen to the story

Salandona is one of the many place names of Asia Minor beginning with Sal, and it is known only from the map and the Ravenna list, which drew on the same late Roman source. If the road ran straight towards Samosata, the station may have stood where it crossed the Pyramus, the Ceyhan, perhaps near Kabaağaç, where the piers of an old bridge still stand fifty metres from the modern one, built partly of reused Roman stones, with columns, perhaps from a late Roman building, set into them. Older research looked instead to the remains of a Roman camp near Tanir.
