Arangas
Akçakale, ehem. Agača-Kale
Arangas goes back to Aranda, a castle founded in the middle of the 3rd century BC by the satrap, or governor, Oromanes; an inscription cut into the rock by its walls boasts of fine towers and high walls raised on dry land. The g in the map's form may come from a copyist reading the Greek capital delta as a gamma. Hittite texts may already name the place Harana. The castle hill is at Akçakale, its summit ringed by walls of roughly cut blocks up to two metres long. Like Hispa, it probably belongs on another road, from Sebastia to Melitene.
