Arae Philenorum

Graret Gser et-Trab

Arae Philaenorum, the Altars of the Philaeni, marked the frontier between the province of Africa and Cyrenaica, and the map ties the spot to its own note on the boundary of Africa and the Cyrenaeans. What the Tabula shows here is unusual: a special drawing standing on its own, with no name written beside it, so the place is identified by the picture alone. The geographer Ptolemy also lists these altars. The site lies at Graret Gser et-Trab on the coast of Libya.
