Road station

Aqua Viva

Petrijanec

Listen to the story

Aqua Viva is drawn as a station on the road from Poetovio towards Mursa, its two words clearly separated on the map by a stop. It lay at Petrijanec on the Drava in Croatia, or, as older research assumed, at Varaždin, and here the road divided: one branch ran to Siscia, the Roman Sisak, the other on towards Mursa. The name means living water, that is, running spring water. The map sets Aqua Viva ten Roman miles from Remista and eleven from Populi.
