Road station
Aquileia
Heidenheim a. d. Brenz
Two towns in Germany compete for this Aquileia: Heidenheim on the Brenz, where a Roman fort and cemetery have been found, and Aalen, where a large cavalry regiment was stationed, though Aalen's distances fit the map less well. Heidenheim is the usual identification. The station lay on the road along the Swabian Jura, twenty Roman miles, about thirty kilometres, from Ad Lunam. Its name is the same as that of the great city of Aquileia at the head of the Adriatic, which also appears on the map.
