Palephato

~ Kouklia

Palephato is Old Paphos, the Paphos that Homer already knew, at Kouklia in Cyprus. It stood a little inland, about ten stades from the shore, near the Zephyrium headland and the mouth of the Bocarus, where ships had a good anchorage. The map puts it eleven Roman miles from the newer Paphos and twenty-two from Curio. Some older copies misread the name as Phalephato.
