Listen to the story
Cerinia is the harbour town of Kyrenia on the coast of Cyprus, where ruins still stand by the sea. The map marks it with the familiar pair of towers, eight Roman miles from Lapethos on one side and twenty-three from Citari on the other. A Roman milestone found nearby at Bellapais records the distance from Salamis, the island's great eastern city, as forty-five miles, although scholars have suspected that the true figure was thirty-five.
