Palmatis

Kochular?

Palmatis, perhaps at today's Kochular, lay fourteen miles from Durostero on the Danube and forty-five from Marcianopolis. The Byzantine historian Procopius knows the name too; the Ravenna list writes Paratis. At Kochular a Greek gravestone shows a horseman in relief. The long stretch south seems to have lost a station of about twenty miles, and on it a milestone found at Asardzik counts eleven miles from Marcianopolis; a Greek inscription of thanks to Apollo turned up there as well.
