Lapheto

Lapta

Lapheto is Lapethos, near Lapta in Cyprus, on a small river of the same name, with ruins at Paleokastro. Greek writers spell the name in many ways, and one coastal guide calls it Lepethis of the Phoenicians. The map counts thirty-three Roman miles from Soloae and eight on to Cerinia; space was so tight that the figure eight had to go below the road line. Some older copies misread the first letter as a Z, but it is clearly an L.
