Lamnas, the station Ad Lamnas on the Via Valeria, lay by the Osteria della Ferrata near Cineto Romano, some thirty-three Roman miles, about forty-nine kilometres, from Rome. Just beyond it a side road branched off to Nero's villa at Subiaco, and in this stretch of the upper Anio valley rise the springs that fed two of Rome's great aqueducts, the Aqua Marcia and the Aqua Claudia.
