Lamnum

Pons

Lamnum is a slip of the pen: the Roman register of routes shows that the name was Tamnum. It lay in the land of the Santones on the road from Bordeaux to Saintes; the current identification is Pons, while older research preferred Tallemont on the Gironde or Montendre. The map runs straight on to Saintes, where the register takes a detour by Novioregum, which explains its longer figure. On the map, the road to Saintes makes an extra bend so that the first word of the town's name fits beside its symbol.
