Road station
Flenio
Vlaardingen
Listen to the story
Flenio was a station in the delta of the Rhine and the Maas, most likely at Vlaardingen near Rotterdam in the Netherlands, where the road crossed the Maas; Vlaardingen appears in the eleventh century as Flardirlinga, and a milestone is said to have been found there. Older research also looked at Delft and Delfshaven. The name has been compared with the Dutch vliet, a stream, and the canal that the general Corbulo dug between Delft and Leiden was still called the Vliet.
